Did you miss your favorite free broadcast TV show? You can see it for free on your PC (or smartphone + any airtime charges). You may have to wait a week to see it, and might only be able to see the more recently broadcasted shows, but you can catch most TV shows on your PC. All the sites will try to sell you paid versions, but most free broadcast shows are available online within a small window before they become pay versions. And yes, they still have all those commercials you have to sit through.

I was preparing someone’s recently purchased computer for their use, transferring their data from their old PC and installing new versions of their software on it, when they joked “Who really reads them” as I clicked “I Agree” on the license agreement during installation.

Very true, but we really should. The agreement will tell you exactly who they share your private information with, and what they share. It might also tell you about those little “gifts” they may add along with their software. Some that might not just clutter up and slow down your PC, but may actually compromise your security and privacy.

Whenever I download software, especially freeware from sources I am not familiar with, I run this software on them. It reads those long legal agreements and alerts you to possible “gotchas”.  It is free.

Malware attacks targeting iOS are on the rise, says Check Point

Check Point researchers found attacks targeting iOS devices moved into the top three most-common mobile malware for the first time.

Android was not immune from malware attacks, In fact, Android malware HummingBad remained in the overall top 10 malware attacks across all platforms globally in April.

One of the questions I am asked most is “Should I upgrade to Windows 10?”

For most users the answer is there are few advantages for Windows 10 for the average user. Some day you will be forced to upgrade, but don’t be rushed now. I would not avoid Windows 10 on new computers, but on older hardware there is no overwhelming advantage to Windows 10 over Windows 7.

Windows 10 is not the nightmare that Windows 8 was to many users who struggled to relearn how to do even basic tasks. There is a slight learning curve for Windows 7 users, but it is no longer overwhelming to most users.

On the other hand, if you are buying a new computer with a touch screen and already use a gesture based smart-phone, then Windows 10 is for you.
